I am not a tech nut. I know enough about it but I'm not obsessed and engrossed in all of it. Anyway, I was reading the top ten Tech stories from the the 2000's and it talked about cloud computing. I looked it up on Wikipedia but it still doesn't make a lot of sense. Can someone please explain it to me?|||Cloud computing is the trend nowadays where applications are hosted online and run by servers, instead of having your computer run them locally.
http://lonewolflibrarian.files.wordpress鈥?/a>
This means that wherever you go, regardless of what platform or device you are using, you can access the application remotely and run it as you would with a normal program.
So perhaps you might own a iPhone or a smartphone with Google Apps capabilities -- you can access Google Calendar, Google Documents, Google Reader etc. all of which are applications hosted on Google servers -- they don't run on your device.
The prime advantages of cloud computing is that your data is always "in sync" -- because your data is kept in the clouds (on the net) as opposed to just being on your device, wherever you go you always have access to the same information.

give reason why?

What is cloud computing in simple form plz plz plz ans|||cloud computing delivers a single application through the browser to thousands of customers using a multitenant architecture. On the customer side, it means no upfront investment in servers or software licensing; on the provider side, with just one app to maintain, costs are low compared to conventional hosting. Salesforce.com is by far the best-known example among enterprise applications, but SaaS is also common for HR apps and has even worked its way up the food chain to ERP, with players such as Workday. And who could have predicted the sudden rise of SaaS "desktop" applications, such as Google Apps and Zoho Office?|||Cloud Computing is where everyone is using the same apps and the same servers at the same time,

How will cloud computing affect jobs in the IT field in Western countries?
Also what are some other good office jobs that pay around 70k or more.|||Cloud computing should not affect IT jobs that much. If all goes as planned then all the apps and storage will be somewhere on a centralized or distributed group of servers (wait, didn't we do this already in the 80's with mainframes?). But computers will still be computers and they'll still have operating systems and they will still need to be connected to a network. Perhaps there will be less software conflicts because less apps need to be installed on the computers. WAN links may need to be beefed up to handle the bigger need (to get to the cloud). But overall the IT job should stay about the same.
To get a decent paying non-IT office job you should look into accounting, legal or management.|||It doesn't affect much. Most of the issues are still present - end users still need to resolve software issues and configure platforms, and while they don't need to worry about hardware they have to look after and actively manage the link to the cloud. Cloud services are usually sold on flexibility and reduction of hardware costs, not saving in terms of manpower. When you factor in the staff looking after the cloud infrastructure at the service provider if anything overall staffing levels may slightly increase.
As for high paying office jobs, there aren't really any except high level secretarial and PA positions. An office job is not simply one where you are working office - it implies a specifically business support function (principally admin) as well. You wouldn't call an architect or a family doctor office workers, even though that is precisely where they work.

Can cloud computing have complete data backup and in what time?
please it will be helpful if you can also give some link for the reference.
thank you.|||Well I would say yes you could use this for backing up but surely theres other options out there... This is outside of my expertise however to give you an idea of time well... how long is a piece of string...
What type of internet connection, where is the server what is the latency... upload/download bandwidth etc etc etc...
With such a vague question its hard to give you a definite answer however my advice would be to keep up with some research... theres tonnes of data there... Small scale test it and work out an upscale model... Asses what your usage is and if backing up over such an infrastructure will affect other required aspects, etc, etc, etc
Also a clarification on your idea of cloud computing would be good as there is some misinterpretations of the term.

How are older computing models different from cloud computing?
Normally web providers or whoever, would use large servers to do all their tasks, be it storing info or number crunching.
an exampel would be Folding@Home.
This could be ran on a super computer, but it would cost alot of money to do. so they made the software andhome users run it at no cost to F@H, the many seprate PC's have the accumaltive proceesing power of a super computer (actually the entire prossecing power supersedes the IBM Roadrunner)
Not all services benifit form Cloud computing, but it is a very intresting branch of computing that could help out alot in hte future, such as Seti and F@H which jsut would be too costly to run on a Supercomputer.

Best way for me to explain cloud computing is this....
Before, if we wanted e-mail programs and games and word processors, we would buy them and install them on our computers, basically we are using our hard-drive to store the program to create files.
Today however hard-drives (storage) is a lot cheaper to buy. So major corperations like yahoo, microsoft, google, facebook and pogo are buying major hard-drives and using them in their servers. They can allow (you or I) to use programs loaded on their hard-drive to accomplish the same thing.
Imagine never buying a "game" or "outlook" for e-mails or a "word processor" program to install on your computer (that uses up your resources)
Cloud computer puts everything on the company servers...for example, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, is cloud e-mail programs.......Pogo, Facebook Games is cloud games. OpenOffice is just like Microsoft Office, but it's available free and it runs from the OpenOffice website.
When everything is converted to cloud computing, you buy a computer and everything you will ever need is already online, gone are the days you buy a program to run on your computer.
Feel free to e-mail me if your still confused.
Cheers

Thankyou.|||Data is stored on a server on the internet rather than on the hard drive on your computer.|||Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. These services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). With the increased pobularity of the cloud computing concept will there be more dbm jobs in the US ?
or will they continue to just outsource them to less expensive employment pools?|||Hello
They will always be outsourced... anything that can be done at a cheaper price, online or offline without the requirement of the person physically being there will always be outsourced.
Rather, the fact that more and more people are being educated about cloud computing they will all the more be outsourced with the help of cloud computing technologies.
Once places like India and China gets floded with jobs their GDP grows, Indina and China companies will start outsourcing to other cheaper places including USA, Canada, UK and etc, if they still survive as a purchasing house of world economy.
Welcome to the world economy my friend and 21st century.
Things will change even further dramatically when even new things are invented, imagine a guy from China travelling to USA, INDIA, UK in 10 mins through a jet propelled scape car and comming back to home supposedly working at a cheaper price.
Then works that need physical presence will also be outsourced or the world economy wil change completely compared to now.
This is not that far, as predicted bby many scientists it will be possible to travel from one side of earth to opposite in 20 mins in the next 30-50 years.
Think.. the more technology the more resources and the more profits and the more the world becomes shorter.
Be prepared to compete thats the only way and try and learn and mould as you get along not fight it because you simply cant fight the whole world.
Thanks

What is the difference between cloud computing and online storage services?
Cloud computing is the provision of services remotely i.e. not locally on your machine. Examples of this include storage, web applications, e-mail etc. Its a new concept in delivery models for IT. 'The Future' some might say. The idea being that all your 'stuff' is held 'in the cloud' in order you can access it from wherever, whenever.|||Cloud computing is basically online services where you don't really know anything about the server (where it is located, how it is implemented, etc). to answer your question:
Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility (like the electricity grid) over a network (typically the Internet). for large companies it usually NOT cost effective to purchase 10,000 copies of some software (like MS Office). So now they can "rent" it off of a Companies Cloud system - saving them $$$$ - downside is that it is on the Internet which is NOT reliable enough for these types of companies - so usually a redundant link is set up just in case some ISP has a problem the backup link takes over and no work time is lost.

Who are some of the other big technical giants who offer Cloud space?
Give some examples of how Cloud Computing is already being used.
Is there a limit on the amount of Cloud space a person can have?|||Well, in the early days of computing, users connected with distant mainframes using dummy terminals. With the birth of the microprocessor, everyone could have a computer on their desk and in their home. The internet brought these devices together. The term "Cloud Computing" is only a few years old, but software as a service has been around for more than a decade.

Need advice from smart IT people. Will Cloud Computing Destroy The IT Field?
I am think about majoring in MIS, but in an MIS introductory course we discussed cloud computing. My feeling is that clouds will allow companies to reduce their IT staff.|||Not in the slightest. I see no reason to believe that it will. Not every company will use cloud computing. And you're also suggesting that the entire IT field is built around servers and networking. And add to that, that the IT field is ever-evolving. What is hot tomorrow will be gone tomorrow, and the day after there will be something new that will come around that will replace that.

What actually mean by CLOUD COMPUTING ?
Let the answer be better understandable for beginners who are willing to know about 'cloud computing'.|||The term "Cloud Computing" is open to a certain amount of interpretation, but generally speaking, it refers to a computing environment where most of the computation, file storage, and so forth is not performed on your local computer, but rather some other computer (or bank of computers). With modern cloud computing, most activity is done via a web browser on a PC. The argument can be made that HotMail and products like it were early forms of cloud computing. Now, some very sophisticated applications are available in "the cloud", such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, etc. Some of the advertised advantages of cloud computing are location independence (if you have access ot a browser, you can compute), reduced cost in some situations, and so forth.
Those of us who have been in the computer business for a few decades simply call "Cloud Computing' "Mainframes Redux"|||It`s essentially the idea of using programs that are installed on a computer on the internet instead of on your own computer.
Currently, you install most programs on your own computer and run them on your own computer.Cloud computing would involve connecting to a remote server and running a program that`s installed on that server, over the internet.
The jargon term for using software in that way would be "Software-as-a-Service" (SaaS)
There is another category for using using remote hardware "Infrastructure-as-a-Service" (IaaS).And sofware developers might write their programs using "Platform-as-a-Service" (PaaS)
In a nutshell, you (or businesses) are devolving your computer work away from your desktop and onto the Internet.|||Cloud computing is just a way of accessing, storing, and processing data on shared servers located on the web or outside of a company. Compare that to traditional servers whereby companies have to allocate a large enough capital for hardware and server rooms.
Information, data, and software will be stored on shared servers on the web (or in the cloud so to speak) thus avoiding a large initial captial expenditure while providing savings since you'll only be paying on demand (as opposed to a fix cost).
Cloud computing can be compared to the electricity grid. Households (companies) do not have to have their own power generators (hardware, servers, etc.) to get electricity (applications, data, etc..). They just need to be connected to the grid (internet) to get electricity whenever they want and they'll only get charged for the electricity that they consume.|||It's basically internet based shared resources. You don't need applications stored on your computer, you get what you need when you need it off the internet.

Is it possible for engg students to do a project on cloud computing and deploy them, wat d b d cost n challenge?
is cloud computing a wise option for doing a final year engg project?wat technology should be used, and how to get started?|||Cloud computing can be done using any network. The easiest way to demonstrate it would be to have a database on one computer and two servers on two different computers. MySQL and PostgreSQL are both easy to use, and Apache comes with a good configuration right out of the box and doesn't require a lot of know how. Finally, you are going to want a scripting interpreter in a language your students know, and a mod file for Apache using that language.
You then have your students write an upload form and a download form, each one connecting to the database. The upload form will be on one computer, and the download form on another.
To demonstrate the versatility of cloud computing, you can back up the database onto another computer, have your students write a script that will try to connect to both databases, and then alternately turn both computers off and show that the script still works. Explain that as long as the data is synced at some point, it doesn't actually matter where it is located.|||"Explain that as long as the data is synced at some point, it doesn't actually matter where it is located."

What are the security issues in cloud computing?
Can anyone give me an example tht where the security issue comes exactly in cloud computing?|||Some security issues that you may have in cloud computing would be having your data on a server that other people may have access to, as well as the possibility that people could see your data if you're not sending it over an encrypted connection.
There's also the possibility of a server crashing and you losing all of your data if you don't have a backup stored somewhere else.
Another issue would be that a company may be forced to hand over any data that is stored on a server to law enforcement agencies if they are asked to.

cloud computing is very new concept in the world of computers.
but what it really is?
how does it help in processing the huge data produced in Large Hadron Collider|||You are right that it is a new concept, but only in name.. we have been using cloud computing for years..
cloud computing is the social interaction of users via computer networks or the internet, so everyone can use the same system and do the same things whilst interacting with each other too.|||Cloud computing is basically where you store all of your information, files, and software on a server and harddrive that is not your own. It is owned by a company who will "host" you. They have the servers, they have the IT guys, they do your backups, they make sure all your information is safe and no one can hack it. They'll make a web browser for you and you can open and access any of your files at any time from any location on any computer (depending on the company you use). You pay a fee to the company, but instead of spending thousands to buy and maintain your own hardware, they have to deal with that.

Is there any relation between multicore and Cloud Computing ?
I was asked to talk about the "Effects of multi-core on cloud computing" ? are there any materials that might help me ?|||These two concepts have little to do with each other.
In general, cloud computing is doing your computing remotely, on computers you don't own and don't particularly know the location of, although if you like the concept but you're a big company with trust issues you could put together your own cloud.
Multicore computers can do compute operations simultaneously. Multicore computers are often used for transaction processing, where you can use several lower-speed (cheaper) cores to handle several simultaneous transactions (symmetric multiprocessing).
Whether a CPU with multiple slower cores is "better" than a faster single-core CPU depends on what you want it to do. If no particular task requires a lot of CPU, then the more cores you have, the better.

Cloud computing is becoming popular and it is expected most organizations will have some applications on it. D?
Cloud computing is becoming popular and it is expected most organizations will have some applications on it. Describe what applications would be suitable for cloud computing. Give examples|||Cloud computing is using an entire network of storage, printing, etc. as a single computer. It's just a way for users of a network to be more 'in touch'.
Applications. Well, word processing for instance. All the official company documents will come up in a single folder, as if they were all on your own machine, even though they're really distributed over many computers in the company. This includes reports, drawings, advertising, procedures and instructions, etc. etc. that are used throughout the company.
Databases are another application. If you want a report on an employee you don't have to ask the Personnel Dept to send you a report, you can access the database yourself, from anywhere in the company (with the right permissions, of course).
My GF was a technical writer, writing instruction manuals for software. At any given moment, she could access the latest revision of the software and try different parts of it to use for her instructions. And the people using the software in-house could access the latest parts of her manual.
There are collaborative projects that have many people working on them, often on different continents. With cloud computing, everyone is working in the same 'space'. Like two mechanics working on different parts of the came car, except one is in Philadelphia and the other is in Jerusalem. But at any time you can compile the project, or print it out, and everyone's latest changes are there. Pretty cool if you think about it.

Which one of these canadian cities is best to start a cloud Computing company?
I want to start a cloud computing company in Canada but i don't know which city to start it in Toronto or Vancouver?
Toronto has a large population its the largest city in Canada it is its Economic capital its close to other world cities like NY but its not known for Tech companies
Vancouver is known for its Tech companies but it doesn't have a huge population and its and isolated city but its relatively close to Huge tech centres in the US|||Where do you live?
I would say Toronto because of the huge population and room for growth. Think about it...Vancouver may be more known for its tech companies, but it is innumdated. Toronto allows you to be a major player in a yet to boom area.

How can we relate ecommerce with cloud computing?
How can we relate ecommerce with cloud computing?|||E-commerce can be very-much related with cloud computing
If global meteorologists could predict the trends of e-commerce and computing, the forecast would probably reflect partially cloudy skies. This is because more applications in the IT field are making the transition to cloud computing. In many ways, cloud computing simply refers to what several e-commerce businesses have been doing for sometime now. Since the term has been popularized in recent times, more people are becoming aware and thus, more businesses are heavily considering the transition. The concept is catching on but not all cloud advocates in the e-commerce world will be cloud users. For example, it would be unlikely for major companies such as Google and Amazon to utilize the cloud for cost benefits or added flexibility.

What is the job scheduling algorithm for cloud computing?
In cloud computing, jobs from users are handled by middleware which optimizes the utility of cloud computing.Middlewares rely on job scheduling alogrithms and thus balance the load on cloud servers.so, is there any proper/general algorithms which most of the middleware use?|||Weblogic clusters employ several techniques, round robin, server affinity, random, and weight based. I don't think its a "one method suits all" situation.
How does 'Cloud Computing' and Linux work together?
I was wondering if Linux had anything to do in the development of Cloud Computing, and if it was in any way related?|||Linux is simply another operating system, just like Windows or OS X. The fact that there are no licensing fees associated with using Linux has made it popular among Amazon EC2, Google App Engine, and other cloud computing services. It also has the advantage of being highly customizable.
However, cloud computing isn't exclusively built on Linux. Microsoft is working on a Windows-based cloud computing system called Azure. Also, there is no reason why a company couldn't create a cloud computing solution built on top of OS X.|||Have you already read here?

Will "cloud computing" be the final nail in the coffin for the IT profession in America?
Many IT jobs have been outsourced to India, etc. Do you think with cloud computing, the remaining IT, networking jobs will be outsourced away from America?|||No, companies will always need IT to manage networks, computers, help desk, phones and internal applications. Even cloud based applications still require interfaces which would typically be built by IT. The "cloud" is just another method of running an application. It does get IT out of the business of running a data center but not all applications are going to run in a cloud so some sort of server room will still be required.|||From programing to hardware management, IT jobs have been outsourced in the past and it'll in the future as well and yet the IT jobs stayed in the American market. I personally don't see a reason to blame 'Cloud Computing' for lack of IT jobs in the market. In fact, report says, that post recession there has been an increase in the demand for IT professionals.
After working in Exchange domain how do take the new fast growing technology Cloud computing?
Which is going to be future technology ? Microsoft also offers cloud computing and google as well. which is the best to go with and why? How flexible cloud computing will be in automating the data interaction which is very easy with exchange using LDAP query and vbscripts?|||Regarding flexibility, cloud computing had been developing day by day since it was implemented. Its just a mater of time that cloud computing will function just like having a personal computer in the cloud.|||This is like asking which is better, Ford or Chevy. They both make cars and they each have their strong points but it would be difficult to say one is "better" than the other. As far as data interaction, both have APIs that can be used to access the data, you would have to weigh the APIs against your specific needs to determine which is better. It comes back to the same thing, how do you pick which one is better when you don't know what you care about. I.E. the ford may get better mileage, but if you have a family of 8 people and are comparing a chevy suburban to a ford escort, yes the escort will get much better mileage but it won't meet your needs, so it's clearly not the winner.
In short, in order to answer your question as to which is better, you must first define your requirements and then assess the ability of each company's API to meet those requirements.

Can I try cloud computing to speed up my computer?
Are there any ways to try cloud computing for free? I know that you can supposedly speed up a computer's processing by distributing its workload to other computers over the Internet. Is there a network to join to do this? Or could I somehow set up my own if I have three or four computers that are permanently online?|||There's a difference between trying to speed up a computer that's too slow and using parallel processing ("cloud computing") to run a process that would take a month on the fastest computer known. If your computer is running too slowly, the fix is to find out why and fix it (or replace the computer if it's just old and slow - if you want a fast computer at all times, be prepared to replace your computer every year). For one thing, cloud computing uses the internet for inter-process communications, and that's SLOW compared to your problem. For another, the main computer in a cloud has to be a pretty fast, pretty powerful computer. If yours was you wouldn't even be asking the question.|||The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer鈥檚 performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

What type of companies really need cloud computing?
cloud computing is the wave of the future but who really benefits from its use? Is it any startup that uses servers or is it more seasoned and sophisticated companies with major storage requirements?|||The downside of cloud computing is that if you lose your internet connection (lightning strike, unpaid bill, ISP server glitch, etc) you cannot access any of your data!|||If you're talking about hosting your website, or web application in the cloud, then the advantage is that people from around the world can get a faster connection. Problem is, the databases for the cloud are not that powerful and you'll probably have to still use a standard database. I would rather just use a content delivery network for large images or data if I really needed it. If you're a startup you probably don't need to use the cloud.
If you want to use it to run programs like MS office, I guess that can be helpful. They have Office live, like google docs so you can store your documents on the web. I'm not sure if you consider that on the cloud or not.

Since cloud computing is looking more and more like the "next big thing", I'd like to know what relevant certifications are out there in the market that would jumpstart my career in cloud computing. In a nutshell what exactly is cloud computing?
People are work were saying oh cloud computing is so cool and this and that but what is it exactly?
The ability to do things online instead of the need of installing software and being able to access data from anywhere?|||Its a brand new tech based off decades old software. It sort of goes back to the idea of having a mainframe.
Computers will be simple little machines, they will have no hard drives or anything of the sort, just the processor, and input devices. When you turn it on, you will log into the cloud. This is a big computer somewhere in the country. This is where the OS and all your files are stored. This method makes computers much cheaper, and you can go to any computer in the world and get your files. It follows you wherever you go and all computers will be the same. Most likely Macs since Apple seems to be the only real developer of cloud servers at the moment.|||Cloud computing provides all of the tools a business requires on a computer without actually having to acquire and maintain the tools at the business. Employees possess the basic necessities such as a computer, its keyboard, and tower, but a business鈥檚 server and its network are kept off site and maintained at a remote location. The advantage helps them to cut back the expense of hiring an IT department when the service can be 鈥榬ented鈥?from another location. Businesses can purchase necessary software through the cloud, and would only be billed for what they use. Business will not be required to be accomplished strictly at a facility and can be conducted the same, anywhere where there is a computer with internet access.|||Basically, yes. Anytime you need something, instead of running the program off of your computer, you run it off of a computer somewhere out on the Net. Anything you do will be saved multiple times across multiple computers so that even if one goes down, you can still get your stuff and not even notice that anything's wrong.|||When you work on the computer inside an airplane!

Wish you all the best.|||Cloud computing - oversimplified..
instead of using only the resources on your personal computer, you leverage the resources of other computers %26amp; servers you can access over networks or internetworks.
Tools.. heck, thousands..
open source stuff like rsync (*nix backup) , commercial applications like Microsoft Live Cloud storage, Amazon Music Cloud storage/player, Google sites, Google apps, numerous online backup websites (Carbonite?), and even hosted applications like CitrixGoToMeeting, GoToMyPC, Microsoft Live Office, and Video streaming.
Advantages / disadvantages:
Pro: more storage %26amp; computing power without the cost to buy or overhead to maintain it.
easier to upgrade %26amp; add-on technology
external tech support to help
available even if your primary computer system(s) go down
Cons: net expenses are more than buying the equipment yourself.
information security can never really be guaranteed; you need to trust a 3rd party.
3rd party may live up to SLA (service -level -agreement) or not..
3rd party may fail backups, be destroyed by floods / fire..
3rd party may go bankrupt or get bought out.
latency.. the info / apps you use are not on your machine, so you have the network lag to deal with.

In traditional computing, we store all data and programs on our PCs and normally we can access them only through the same computer unless you allow remote access. Whereas in cloud computing all necessary data and programs are stored in the service provider’s information centre and thereof they can be accessed from any PC with an Internet connection. In many cases you don’t even have to download and install any applications to your computer, because they are already in the “cloud”. More information about the "cloud":

Does cloud computing mean the end of the network administrator career? What role does the network admin have in cloud computing.|||Gen. Anybody think cloud computing will destroy a lot of the IT industry?
As more and more companies move towards cloud computing and web based apps, does anybody else think it will eliminate many IT jobs, hardware and software companies? If everything is running in large data centers, won't this be where most jobs will be based?
Anybody have comforting thoughts for those of us working in the network/systems administration field of things.|||All cloud computing does is move the compute-intensive stuff into a different realm. For the most part, the Global 2000 (who account for upwards of 80% of all money spent on IT) is already running in data centers. What's happening now is "datacenter transformation," which means smaller servers (blades), networked storage (SAN) and virtualized hardware (VM). There will still be plenty of jobs for those who are able to evolve and adapt.
Darwinism at its finest. :-)

Thanks.|||Well, the basics of cloud computing is that a server is somewhere and you don't necessarily know where, but it still provides a useful service. You could simulate cloud computing by having one computer be a server and the other the client and pretending they aren't right next to each other :p

Where should i start if i were to learn about cloud computing?
I'm extremely excited about this whole new concept of a Server maintaining all the required softwares and we as users share it. So, where do i start if i were to become a geek in cloud computing?|||Hi sandip,
It is seen from ur question that u r new to this topic , so u should study from the very beginingBut from ur question it is not clear that from where u want to start--hardware aspect or software aspect.
My solution is to carry on ur study on grid computing, a very old research topic and cloud computing slightly modifies it.

What are some of the considerations when using cloud computing?
Does cloud computing help to resolve the peak period demand? How is cloud computing related to infrastructure?|||Cloud is great for cutting IT cost. It sucks for security.
How cloud computing work practically and how much it is feasible?
lots of i am hearing about cloud computing now a days.
i googled but not found one good example.
can you explain how it works in simple way.|||Cloud computing works fairly well in practice, and it is very feasible. It isn't really a new idea - grid computing is the older term for something very similar or identical to cloud computing. Here's a good example of an introductory article for cloud computing: http://webtrends.about.com/od/enterprise鈥?/a>
In a simple way? If you buy access to computing resources 'in the cloud', virtual machines are created that you get access to as if they were physical machines, in which you do your computing. Basically. Of course, data lock-in is a major factor in cloud computing, as is the transfer of honking big data sets.

How is cloud computing related to information security?
I'm trying to understand more about technology, and from what I know so far, cloud computing is a "plum-pudding" model of information access. By that I mean there is a pool of computing giants (such as Microsoft and Google) that allow their users to have access to their services, but not know anything about how that information came to be. If this is wrong, please explain that in your answer too.
My question specifically asks that if so many different users can access the information that anyone else can access, how is security even possible?|||Check Wiki a lot of info there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_compu鈥?/a>

What's the difference between cloud computing and hosting on a online web server?
Could somebody please explain to me what cloud computing is in laymen's terms?|||To put it simple, Dedicated servers have limited resources. There is a limit on the number of processors or hard drives that you can put into a dedicated server. You cannot run 100k websites from one dedicated server.
But you can do that with a cloud hosting, as you can add the same server hardware to a cloud, and the power of the cloud will just go on increasing. The resources of all the servers and computers in the cloud are shared, and therefore, a reseller hosting company can virtually host billions and billions of sites in what would look like just 1 server, but which actually is a cloud of several hundreds of servers.
Cloud hosting in a very large scale is highly profitable since management costs would come down, however, the hardware costs would just remain the same.|||First, the easy one... hosting on a web server is when you upload files to a server so they can be downloaded again by you, or by other people you give permission to.
With cloud computing, you're using applications (like email, word processing, spreadsheet, photo editing) that are located on a remote server somewhere, but using them as if they were programs on your computer. Google Apps (Google Documents, etc.) would be a good example of that. The program lives on a remote server, but you're using it on your computer inside a web browser, and usually saving your files to the remote server so they can be accessed from any computer you use.
So part of cloud computing involves uploading files to a web server, but it has more to do with the fact that you're using a program that lives on that server to help you create the files to begin with.
Does that clear things up?|||In practical terms, there is no difference. Cloud computing is just a buzzword that means a lot of different things depending on what company is selling something. In general terms the term "cloud" means "don't worry about how, it just happens and it just works".
Cloud computing, to me, is simply the provision of technology-based resources (processor power, storage, networking) on demand, just like the power company provides you with electricity to the plugs in your house.
If you want to read a bit more about it check out the Wikipedia entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_compu鈥?/a>
For an example of a currently available, real-world and seemingly successful cloud computing service, check out the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) at http://aws.amazon.com/s3/ . Other examples include Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, and the Google search engine. They all run "in the cloud". They don't run on YOUR PC, right? ;-)
If you REALLY want to read more about it go to the library and get a copy of "The Big Switch" by Nicholas Carr. I'm just starting to read it and it's very interesting, not "techie" boring stuff, but "big-picture, history-making-and-changing innovation" kind of stuff.

What is the best cloud cloud computing software?
Hi guys,
I was reading up a bit on cloud computing and I really want to realise it's potential but I don't know what software to go for. Ideally I want something light and easy to use any suggestions?|||Ok so I've tried so far a few of thse: Jolicloud and Good os, but they are both linux versions and for the normal user isn't that keen on linux.
Although i did come across a software called cnap%26amp;go that would run on top of windows and would have all the little programs you need (like word processor and spreadsheets) and also gives you like a gig of space to host your files on. It works by keeping it on a USB stick and it works on every computer you plug it in to.
I've got a link here: http://www.cnap.me
So far they're still in beta but i don't know, i kind of like it. I guess it's a matter of preference. Give it a try for yourself.|||Depending on what you need in a solution would help determine what Cloud solution is the best. Microsoft covers business software, CRM, ERP, development and virtualization in the Cloud. Other providers will offer something more specific based on their focus.|||Microsoft.

I want to know more about cloud computing & start research in it. I m a beginner.Where should I start with?
I hav read a few articles over the internet about cloud computing %26amp; I understand a few basic concepts abt it. But I want to get more technical into tht field %26amp; go deeper into research in the field of cloud computing . Where should I start with?|||Cloud computing is Internet- ("cloud-") based development and use of computer technology ("computing"). In concept, it is a paradigm shift whereby details are abstracted from the users who no longer have need of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them. Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves the provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources as a service over the Internet.
The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on the cloud drawing used to depict the Internet in computer network diagrams as an abstraction of the underlying infrastructure it represents. Typical cloud computing providers deliver common business applications online which are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on servers.
A technical definition is "a computing capability that provides an abstraction between the computing resource and its underlying technical architecture (e.g., servers, storage, networks), enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction."This definition states that clouds have five essential characteristics: on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service.
You have to join the Institutions for brief knowledge for this.

What topics can I relate cloud computing to in Management?
Hi,
I am studying Business and Management and I want to do my dissertation on cloud computing. However, this is just a vague and broad idea. I am struggling to find a management topic to discuss in relation to it. I hope I'm making sense! Can you help?|||Hey, ill suggest you take a help frm some professional DISSERTATION WRITERS like www.globalassignmenthelp.com . I was stuck with my MBA dissertatio and they just delivered it on my email in one week.
If you cant find them just send them an email at help@globalassignmenthelp.com and they will respond in 5 mints. They hardly charge 200 拢 for my dissertation which was 20,000 words.
yup that was plagarism free.
Cheers!

How can companies benefit from using Cloud Computing?
I am doing a research paper on cloud computing. I want to talk about how companies can use cloud computing and how it can benefit them. Also if anyone has any info on what kinds of app or software you can use in the cloud that would be appreciated. Thanks|||Cloud computing is simply storing data and useing apps on someone else's server. Pretty much every app that Google offers is in essence cloud computing. For a business, they can pay only for the capacity that they use. They don't need to go invest in hardware, electricity to run it, cooling etc... so it costs a business a lot less money. If the business needs huge quantities or space/bandwidth, they do not have to build a facility to house their servers. They get it all for a feee that they pay someone.
What is cloud computing in simplest terms?
Im reading an article and it says "The threat: cloud computing, in which applications run on the web."
What does that mean?|||Instead of running applications on your computer they are run from central servers which you access to view data. What is cloud computing in simple terms- how does it differ from whatever it's replacing?
What's the difference between cloud computing and whatever it's replacing (what's that called and am I likely using it now?). Do lots of people use it and can it be used for anything on the internet?|||Cloud computing just means storing stuff in the cloud (the term cloud refers to servers on the internet).
For instance, there are currently online companies that offer back-up services for you. This means that you can simply download their program, and they'll automatically backup all your files periodically. So if your computer dies or gets infected with a virus or something, you can get back your old files online from the back-up company. (Of course, you have to pay a fee for this service; it's not free.)
This is in contrast to the "traditional" way of backing stuff up. Most people just buy external hard drives and do the backup themselves. Cloud computing means that we allow a company to do it for us via the internet.
More examples:
- Google docs is a cloud-computing version of office suites (such as Microsoft office). Whereas with Microsoft Office or OpenOffice, you buy/download the product and install it on your own computer, Google docs doesn't actually require you to install anything on YOUR side. It just requires your web browser, and all the heavy lifting/work is done by Google's server (for instance, Google is the one doing the spell-checking, saving your documents, etc -- your computer doesn't really do much).|||Cloud computing isn鈥檛 just for online storage 鈥?you can use business software such as e-mail, CRM or ERP online rather than having to install the software on your computer.
In some cases, you don't even know that you're using a Cloud option compared to one that's it's replacing (on your PC/servers, etc.). The difference is that you access the solution/software online and can usually access from any PC or mobile device.
Here are some examples of Microsoft's offerings for Cloud Computing:

How does cloud computing effect a graphic designer?
I'm doing a research paper about how cloud computing effects graphic designers and I need as much information about that as I can get. Please and Thank you!!|||As of now, not much. You'll still be using the same set of tools Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc. Cloud will have an impact on "Developer" as the platform itself is available through browser (known as PaaS) %26amp; the development team has to take care of the essential characteristics of the cloud viz. elasticity, multi-tenancy, scalability etc.
IMO - In future it may happen that PaaS may evolve to take care of the rich UI.|||Cloud Computing enables a user to store their data in the "cloud" over internet. The data can be accessed by you on any device or computer irregardless of OS computer specs. If your'e constantly on the go or travelling from one state to another, cloud computing is essential in data storage. Some companies like Exvo.com offer free desktop OS and memory for each account, while others charge some fee. While i'm not a graphic designer, my work needs me to use image formats and similar documents for clients. When i'm on the road, my personal cloud assures me that my data is easily accessible if my laptop or presentation material gets lost. Best of luck on your research paper!

What's the difference between mobile cloud computing and cloud computing?
Hi,
other than the clients for mobile cloud computing are cell phones and the clients for cloud computing are computers, what are the main differences between the two?
Thanks,
Bernie|||Physical reconfiguration of the network because of moving between base stations (and therefore stronger transactions), limited processing power, limited transmission power, low bandwidth, and limited battery power.

CLOUD COMPUTING?????????????
How can you protect your company from an outage caused by such an issue with cloud computing?|||You can't protect your computer, but you can protect your data.|||Cloud computing is a big scam. The promoters want you to store you data with them and they control you access. It's a return to the past. When I started programming in 1971 everything was on a main frame and all we could do was use punch cards that the operators at the computer center would input and we'd return hours later to get out output. Things improved to the point that a user has his own data on his own machine, or a local network, and his own programs. Look at the big promoters of cloud computing: they''re the people that want to make money off storing you data and programs with them. Listen carefully to their ads for the "prices subject to change without notice". That's you clue to avoid it.|||Backups

Cloud Computing would be fun however i would also want to keep my own hard drive for personal files etc...
I thinks its a great idea and i would use it, so does anyone else think they should do it and would you use it??|||Well I use it a lot at work ie with Winterm and the like, however for the home user I think it would not be of much use, I think Mr Bill Gates is thinking of going down this road on the next release.
You will have to have good WAN connection which is not going to happen in the UK for some time yet, and you then get the Security people that would not like it.
